“IPL pitches are different and are nothing like the flat pitches like you get in PSL” – Twitterati troll SRH’s Harry Brook!

The 2016 IPL champions were praised for their choice when young England player Harry Brook was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 13.25 crore at the mini-auction last December. Many English veterans had backed the 24-year-old to be a contender for the Orange Cap.

More so than his spectacular debut in Test cricket, Brook’s performance in the previous Pakistan Super League (PSL) season gave many people hope that he could succeed in the IPL. However, the batter from England lost in the IPL 2023 for the second time in a row, infuriating supporters on social media.

For Lahore Qalandars in the 2022 PSL, Brook scored 264 runs in eight innings, including a century, at a strike rate of 171.4. However, Test cricket has been more eye-catching in terms of statistics. He has 809 runs scored in 10 innings, including four century and three fifty-singles. Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s Test team, compared Brook to Virat Kohli after his incredible run and backed the kid to emulate the former India skipper’s success in all formats.

“He’s one of those rare players that you look across all formats and you can just see him being successful everywhere. It’s a massive shout, but Virat Kohli is one of those guys where his technique is just so simple and works everywhere.” – said Ben Stokes following Brook’s Century at Multan Test last year.

With only 16 runs in two innings, Brook was unable to make a splash in the IPL 2023. Only 13 runs were scored in his first appearance, while he only managed four runs in Friday’s match against the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.
