PCB Sends Legal Notice to Corbin Bosch Due to Breach of Contract

Corbin Bosch, the dynamic all-rounder from South Africa has been sent a legal notice for breach of contractual obligations by the Pakistan Cricket Board. This is due to his unexpected withdrawal from the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League, being organised concurrently with the Indian Premier League.

Bosch was picked by Peshawar Zalmi in January, but he has gone ahead and signed himself with the Mumbai Indians franchise just before the two leagues are about to commence.

The all-rounder was picked as a replacement player for the upcoming IPL 2025 after Lizaad Williams was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. As a result, Bosch withdrew from PSL where he was picked to play for the team Peshawar Zalmi, during the tenth edition of Pakistan Super League Players Draft, held in Lahore on January 13.

The legal notice was served through his agent, and the player has been asked to justify his actions of withdrawing from his professional and contractual commitments,” the Pakistan Cricket Board stated in a release on March 16.

As the PCB declared its schedule parallel to the IPL, unforeseen clashes were bound to happen. With players made to decide between the two different franchise leagues, IPL was expected to be the preferred choice owing to higher remuneration and enhanced exposure.

Corbin ditched his PSL contract as five-time IPL winners franchise Mumbai Indians approached him. However, members of the PCB, headed by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi became understandably disappointed. This resulted in Bosch receiving a legal notice through his agent for breaching his contractual obligations with the board.

The athlete has been instructed to justify his actions of withdrawing from his professional commitment and the plausible repercussions of his departure have also been earmarked, with a response expected within the stipulated time frame.

My Perspective:

What response Bosch submits to the PCB is unknown, but a contractual breach in my opinion definitely seems unjustified. His intent of playing in one of the biggest sporting leagues across the world may be correct but the execution route to participate in it does have an unethical approach to it, setting an example for other players too.

This is the first time since the PSL was launched in 2016 that its window will clash for quite a few matches with the IPL. It was shifted from its regular February window to April because of the Champions Trophy and other international commitments in Pakistan.

The upcoming season of PSL is set to run from April 11 to May 25, overlapping with the IPL which will run from March 22 to May 25. You can live stream the IPL matches on Jio Hotstar App and Star Sports channel.
