Odisha FC has risen to become one of the most influential clubs in Indian football.

Odisha FC fans will remember the 2022–23 season fondly for a long time. For the first time in the history of the club, the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) team qualified for the Hero ISL playoffs. To top it all off, they won the Hero Super Cup by defeating Bengaluru FC, which was the club’s first silverware.

Odisha FC, the Bhubaneswar-based club, advanced to the final of the Hero Super Cup 2023 after remaining undefeated in the campaign. The final against Bengaluru FC was the club’s first-ever final, and the Kalinga Warriors took most of the occasion, putting up a superb performance to defeat the Blues.

The man with the ISL’s golden boot struck twice in 15 minutes to propel Odisha FC to its pinnacle. Diego Mauricio’s two goals in the first half earned Odisha the Super Cup on an unexpectedly wet Tuesday night. Odisha defeated Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the final to claim its first trophy.

While it was Odisha’s first final, it was Bengaluru’s third of the season. It was Simon Grayson’s team’s second final setback in as many months; they had lost the ISL final in a shootout to ATK Mohun Bagan.

Odisha’s superb forward players, including Mauricio, Rodriguez, and Jerry, were expected to cause problems for Bengaluru’s tough defence, which they did.

It was also a proud time for Indian football because head coach Clifford Miranda became the first Indian coach to win a major trophy for the club.
