No Relief for NDTL By WADA Over Six Months Ban

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is not in a mood to give premature relief to the National Anti Doping Agency’s(NADA) National Dope Test Laboratory (NDTL). WADA as of now has refused to lift the ban on NDTL. NDTL had requested the international body to lift the ban on all testing except Isotope-ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). For this, NDTL had asked Lab Expert Group (LEG) of WADA to visit the lab in the month of January.ndtl-six-months-ban-by-wada

Sources reveal that WADA has recently informed NDTL that IRMS samples made by Delhi Lab are still being reviewed by LEG, therefore, it will not be possible to lift the ban on NDTL until further review and testing of these IRMS samples are completed. WADA has also stated that LEG is closely monitoring the NDTL case. The Lab Documentation Package (LDP) of the samples sent by NDTL has also been completed.

WADA had sought a documentation package of 38 IRMS samples made by NDTL from 2016 to 20 August 2019. Sources reveal that some of these samples are being re-tested by WADA. These samples have been sent for Rome lab testing. Sources further reveal that the results of three to four samples are still pending. Once the result of the pending samples is also received, LEG will once again look into NDTL’s case and only then will the WADA team consider visiting NDTL.

However, NDTL wanted the LEG to settle this process as soon as possible and visit the lab in January itself and test it. WADA had imposed a six-month ban on NDTL on August 23 last year. Accordingly, the WADA team is scheduled to visit the lab in February. It is evident from WADA’s answer that NDTL may have to complete the six months ban as before that there seems to be no relief for NDTL. Only after the WADA team visits NDTL it will be clear whether the ban on NDTL will be lifted or it will be extended.
