Navjeet Dhillon is an Indian track and field athlete who mainly competes in the discus throw. Her current world ranking in the Women’s Discus Throw category is 40. She was the bronze medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with her final throw of 57.43 m. Navjeet is also only the second Indian to win a medal at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in 2014.

Navjeet Kaur Dhillon was born on the 6th of March 1995 in Amritsar, Punjab. She hails from a family of sportsmen. Her brother is a shot putter and her mother is an Asian Games medalist in hockey. There was no lack of inspiration for her while growing up. Navjeet’s father Jaspal Dhillon always encouraged her to pursue athletics and remains her strongest supporter.

Navjeet’s Career started on a dream note as won the Indian junior title in the discus in 2010 and the national youth title in 2011. Navjeet won her first international medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011. she became only the second Indian to win a medal at the World Junior Athletics.

At the 2013 Asian Athletics Championships, Dhillon competed in both the shot put and the discus for the first time as a senior. Navjeet won more medals at the 2014 Asian Junior Athletics Championships, where she was third in the shot put and second in the discus.

She won the bronze medal in the discus throw event with a distance of 56.36m. Her personal best is 59.18m set in 2018 in Indian Grand Prix in February 2018. Dhillon’s first senior international medal came in the discus event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games with a distance of 57.43m. It was a spectacular achievement for the 23-year-old.

She was drawn to athletics as a child because she was born into a sporting household. Jaspal Singh, her father, has the title of official national shot put champion. Her mother, Kuldip Kaur, was a member of the hockey squad that won the silver medal at the 1986 Asian Games. Jasdip, her older brother, won a bronze medal in the shot put at the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2008.

Commonwealth Games must bring sweet memories for Navjeet. She won the bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with her final throw of 57.43 m. Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham gives her a great opportunity to revive her career. All of India is hoping that Navjeet can repeat her magic of the Commonwealth Games.
