Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde holds felicitation ceremony for Rohit Sharma

The Indian cricket team, fresh off their victory in the T20 World Cup, received a hero’s welcome upon their return home. The celebrations kicked off with a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and ended with a felicitation ceremony with Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

Meeting the Prime Minister

The team, sporting special jerseys with two stars to represent their T20 World Cup wins, met the Prime Minister for a celebratory breakfast. Team management, BCCI President Roger Binny, and Secretary Jay Shah were also present. After the breakfast, the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament, Jasprit Bumrah, expressed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s hospitality.

Victory Parade in Mumbai

Following the Delhi visit, the excitement shifted to Mumbai, where a grand victory parade awaited the team. The parade route stretched from Marine Drive, a scenic coastal location, to the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Thousands of fans lined the streets, their cheers and chants creating an electric atmosphere. The enthusiasm was so high that some fans even climbed trees to get a better glimpse of their heroes.

A Celebration Fit for Champions

The open-bus parade allowed the players to connect with the fans directly. They held the coveted trophy high, acknowledging the unwavering support they received throughout the tournament. The celebrations continued at the Wankhede Stadium, where the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) felicitated the team with a prize money of Rs 125 crore.

The stadium was packed with passionate fans who erupted in cheers as the players danced to the lively beats of dhol. The event also featured a victory lap by the team to the tune of India’s national anthem, “Vande Mataram.”

The celebration wasn’t just about the team. Players took turns expressing their thoughts on the win and the contributions of their teammates. This provided a glimpse into the team’s camaraderie and the teamwork that led them to victory.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Felicitates the Team

Adding to the celebrations, the team also met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. The Chief Minister presented the players with shawls and idols of Lord Ganesha, signifying his blessings and appreciation for their achievements. Only Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal and the bowling coach met Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

The entire day shows the love for cricket in India. From the Prime Minister’s breakfast to the electrifying atmosphere at the victory parade, the celebrations reflected the nation’s pride in its T20 World Cup champions.
