Maharashtra Athletes make a Splash with Record-Breaking Performance at National Games 2023

On Day 7 of the 2023 National Games in Goa, athletes from Maharashtra displayed their dominance, securing a remarkable 13 medals on October 31. The highlight of the day was the breaking of four national records, all within the realm of swimming. Maharashtra, in particular, shone by clinching seven Gold medals, elevating their total count to an impressive 127.

Notably, Virdhawal Khade of Maharashtra set a new national record in the men’s 50 freestyle, surpassing his own record with a remarkable time of 22.82 seconds. This achievement saw him outpace competitors Srihari Nataraj from Karnataka and his fellow Maharashtra teammate Mihir Ambre.

In the women’s 50m freestyle event, Rutuja Khade, also representing Maharashtra, demonstrated her prowess by clocking an excellent time of 26.42 seconds, securing a Gold medal. Both Virdhawal and Rutuja established new benchmarks in the 50m freestyle events, contributing to Maharashtra’s Gold medal count, which exceeded 50 on that day.

Palak Joshi, another athlete from Maharashtra, added to her team’s glory by claiming Gold in the women’s 200m backstroke, triumphing over Sourabh Mondal from West Bengal. Karnataka maintained their dominance in swimming on Day 7, with Shoan Ganguly achieving another Gold and establishing another national record.

In the women’s 400m medley, S Lakshya, representing Karnataka, showcased her talent by defeating her teammate Hashika Ramachandra to secure Gold. Ganguly’s impressive performance set a new tournament record with a finish time of 4:28.09 in the men’s 400m medley.

Notably, Nithik Nathella from Tamil Nadu also made a mark by winning Gold in the men’s 200m backstroke event and setting a new national record with a remarkable finish time of 2:03.32.
