Los Angeles Knight Riders Scores Lowest Total of Major League Cricket
The Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) set a new low in Major League Cricket (MLC) on Sunday, July 17, when they were bowled out for just 50 runs in their match against the MI New York (MINY). The previous lowest total in MLC history was 67, set by the Minnesota Stars in their inaugural match against the San Diego Padres in 2023.

The LAKR’s batting performance was truly dismal. Only one batter, Unmukt Chand (26) reached double figures. The rest of the LAKR lineup was dismissed for single-digit scores, with eight batters failing to reach even eight runs.
The MINY bowlers were in excellent form, led by Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult who took 2-2 wickets for 16 and 10 runs. All the bowlers took the same number of wickets, including Pollard.
The MINY batsmen cruised to victory with their score of 155 for 8 in just 20 overs. Tim David top-scored 48 runs off 21 balls whereas Pooran added 38.
The LAKR’s defeat was their second in as many matches in the 2023 MLC season. They will be looking to bounce back when they face the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, July 20.
The MINY’s victory was their first in two matches in the 2023 MLC season.
What went wrong for the LAKR?
There were a number of factors that contributed to the LAKR’s dismal batting performance. First, the LAKR batsmen were unable to get the ball away early in their innings. They were tied down by the MINY bowlers, who were able to build pressure and force the LAKR batsmen to make mistakes.
Second, the LAKR batsmen were inconsistent in their shot selection. They made a number of poor decisions, which resulted in their wickets being lost cheaply.
Third, the LAKR batsmen lacked the power to clear the boundary. They were only able to hit a handful of sixes, which made it difficult for them to score quickly.
