Lakshya Sen storms into Indonesia Open 2024 quarterfinals

Lakshya Sen, a star Indian badminton player, has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the men’s singles of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament. Arguably, he performed powerfully in the tournament and made a comfortable victory against Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto.

Lakshya Sen was not even out of breath; he defeated Nishimoto in the pre-quarters match in straight sets, 21-9, 21-15. This clinical display demonstrated how confident he was throughout the match and how he could dominate his opponent.

The women’s doubles match pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand was a close call in which the Japanese pair of Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara won with a very close margin. Despite giving their best shots, Treesa and Gayatri, representing India failed at capitalizing the lead of the first set and finally were on the receiving end of a close loss, (21-19, 19-21, 19-21).

Sadly, it marked the end of the campaign for India’s women doubles pair – Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa. They lost to South Korean pair of Ha Na Baek and So-Hee Lee in a contest which changed from side to side with the former winning the first sets by 21-13, and then the latter to win the second and third sets by 19-21 and 21-13.

In the mixed doubles category, India’s B Sumeeth Reddy and Sikki Reddy were put up for a test against the number one seeded Chinese pair of Siwei Zheng and Yaqiong Huang. They lost the game horribly by 9-21, 11-21.

Upcoming match of the day yet trails another interesting match in the men’s singles category. Priyanshu Rajawat will surely have his tournament of his life when he faces South Asia’s No. 1 player, Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand. He is a powerful contender with the undisputed accomplishments of being the world champion and the previous year’s World Championship gold medallist.

It is yet to be seen on how effectively the Indian alongside Lakshya Sen will able to manage the upcoming matches. But the continuous dominant performances of Lakshya Sen in the Men’s Singles is surely giving the Indian side a positive outlook. His victory against Nishimoto shows his skills and and readiness for any encounter. The performance allows him to advance to the next rounds and to prepare for the more difficult games that are in store for him in the quarterfinal stage.
