Achievements of Lahiru Thirimanne in International Cricket

For the last 13 years, Lahiru Thirimanne played an important role in the Sri Lankan team. He played as the left-handed opening batsman for the team. He played many important knocks for the team, to ensure that his team consistently gets good starts. He made his international debut in an ODI against India on 5th January 2010. Since then he has had a number of achievements.

Achievements of Lahiru Thirimanne

There are several achievements of Thirimanne. You can see some of the highlights of his career below. That is going to give you a glimpse of his skills and expertise. 

  • In the year 2014, Sri Lanka went on to win the ICC T20 World Cup. Lahiru Thiramanner was a proud member of that team. 
  • He made his Test debut against England in the year 2011. 
  • In the year 2014, he even captained the Sri Lankan team in the Asian games. He made his team win the gold medal. 
  • Thirimanne got his debut ODI century against Australia
  • He went on to play 26 T20 matches. 

The other side of the coin 

Due to their poor average in Test Cricket, he was never a regular member of his team. After the first Test century, it took him almost seven years to get his second Test century. This was a big reason to criticize his performance. At the same time, he was also known as a very lucky cricketer because, even after performing with a poor average, he was able to become a member of the team, time and again.

In form, he was considered one of the best batters on the team. He was considered a far better ODI batsman. His Average in ODIs was 34.71 runs.  He even scored 4 centuries and 21 half-centuries in ODI cricket. He was certainly an important contributor.
