Paris Saint‑Germain’s 25‑year‑old winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the 4‑2 Champions League victory over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday 20 October 2026. The injury forced him off the pitch before the hour mark and he could not put any weight on the leg.
The club confirmed on 21 October that Kvaratskhelia will have surgery in the coming days. The injury occurred after a collision with Barcelona’s Xavi Espart in the 59th minute, and PSG medical staff had to carry him off the field.
"Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday's match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days," the club statement read.
The match saw PSG twice take the lead, with Barcelona equalising on both occasions. In the final ten minutes, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scored to secure the win. Maghnes Akliouche replaced Kvaratskhelia after the injury.
Kvaratskhelia, a former Napoli player and Georgia international, was a key figure for the reigning Champions League champions. His absence will leave a gap in a squad that already lost Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos to injuries in the same game.
The injury is expected to sideline him for at least nine months, meaning he will miss the remainder of the 2026‑27 season. No return date has been announced, and the club has not yet scheduled the operation.
PSG will travel to Lyon on Sunday 25 October for a top‑of‑the‑table Ligue 1 clash, while the club prepares to cope without Kvaratskhelia for the rest of the campaign.
