Jinson Johnson Biography
Naib Subedar Jinson Johnson, an Indian middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800 and 1500 meters, was born on March 15, of the year 1991. Jinson Johnson serves as a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Jinson Johnson ran in the 800-meter race. In the 1500-meter race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Jinson Johnson placed sixth and broke Bahadur Prasad’s 23-year-old national record. Later in the year, Jinson Johnson won both a silver medal in the 800 meters and the gold medal in the men’s 1500m at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, with a time of 3:44.72 in the final competition.
Early life
Johnson was born on March 15, of the year 1991, in the Keralan town of Chakkittapara, which is close to Perambra. Jinson Johnson attended Baselius College in Kottayam for his graduation after completing his education at Kulathuvayal’s St. George’s High School. Before entering the Indian Army in the year 2009, Jinson Johnson received training at the sports hostel run by the Kerala Sports Council in Kottayam. Jinson Johnson has been assigned as a junior commissioned officer at Hyderabad as of the month of July of the year 2015. Jinson Johnson, as of the year 2018, holds the title of Naib Subedar.
Athletic Career
Johnson ran the 800 meters in 1:49.69 to take home the silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships of the year 2015 in Wuhan. The same year, Jinson Johnson also took home three gold medals from the Asian Grand Prix in Thailand.
When Johnson ran the 800 meters in the city of Bangalore in the month of July of the year 2016, he set a personal best time of 1:45.98, which was faster than the required time of 1:46.00 to qualify for the Summer Olympics of the year 2016. In the month of June of the year 2018, Johnson beat Sriram Singh’s long-standing 800 meter national record by clocking a time of 1:45.65 seconds at the Inter State Senior Athletics Championships.
At the Asian Games of the year 2018, Jinson Johnson earned a gold medal in the 1500-meter race and a silver medal in the 800-meter race, coming in second place to fellow countryman Manjit Singh, who took home the gold.
