In an open letter addressed to Edulji, Jhulan Goswami lauded the ex-captain’s pivotal role in shaping the landscape of women’s cricket in India. Goswami remarked, “It is an absolute honour for you, but also a very proud moment for women’s cricket in our country and a proud moment for India as a whole, that you are being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. It is so well-deserved; you have been a pioneer for women’s cricket in our country.”

Reflecting on Edulji’s immense contributions, Goswami emphasized that the game’s current stature in India owes much to Edulji’s tireless efforts. “Your contributions over the years have been immense. It is not too much to say that the game would not be where it is in India without all your efforts,” wrote Goswami.

Expressing a personal regret, Jhulan Goswami revealed, “From a personal perspective, one of the biggest regrets of my career was that I never got to play against you. Like many young cricketers in India, I had grown up reading about you in the record books.” Goswami highlighted Edulji’s leadership qualities and pivotal role in the early years of women’s cricket, stating, “Women’s cricket in India started in Mumbai in 1971, and you were there from the start.”

Acknowledging Edulji’s legendary performances during the 1970s and 1980s, Goswami praised her as a born leader who consistently led from the front. “You take the initiative and always try to contribute to society; that is the biggest achievement of all,” she remarked.

Goswami also highlighted Edulji’s influential role during her tenure on the BCCI board, where she continued to champion the cause of women’s cricket. “Later, when you were present on the BCCI board, you made further huge contributions. You had played at the highest level and stayed involved in women’s cricket so you understood exactly what we needed,” Jhulan Goswami acknowledged.

Closing the letter, Goswami expressed the confidence that Edulji’s legacy would continue to inspire the current generation of cricketers. “We had a voice to give our game the support it needed, and we knew that we could turn to you for anything,” she concluded.

Jhulan Goswami’s heartfelt letter not only pays tribute to a cricketing icon but also underscores the profound impact Diana Edulji has had on women’s cricket in India. Edulji’s induction into the ICC Hall of Fame serves as a fitting recognition of her enduring contributions to the sport, both on and off the field.
