IPL 2023 : Nicholas Pooran must play his game with full freedom! - appeals Mohammad Kaif to LSG mentor and Captain.

Season 16 of the Indian Premier League is just around the corner as the cash laden tournament begins in less than a week’s time. Reigning champions Gujarat Titans will begin their title defense against 4-time winners Chennai Super Kings in the opening game with more than 60 games to follow.

This year, Lucknow Super Giants who were introduced in the IPL last year along with GT, will look forward to claim the title after reaching the play-offs last season. Under KL Rahul’s leadership, LSG finished 3rd in the league table but could not go through to the final.

LSG have extremely lethal players in their disposal this year not just in their retained players but also bought some influential players. One of the main buys during the Mini Auction for IPL 2023 were Jaydev Unadkat, Nicholas Pooran, Daniel Sams, Romario Shephard and Naveen Ul-Haq among others.

One of the main players for this year will be West Indies International wicket-keeper Batsman Nicholas Pooran. He ended up becoming one of the most expensive players during the Mini-Auction when LSG signed him for INR 16 Crores.

And former Indian Batter and IPL 2008 winner with Rajasthan Royals, Mohammad Kaif while speaking to Star Sports said that LSG must keep their expectations in check after splashing the amount. “You can set proper expectations with him, like if he is here to play 14-15 league matches, and if he makes Lucknow win 4-5 games, it’s sufficient.”

Kaif also mentioned the fact that Pooran is a type of player who is known for flamboyancy and big hitting but if he gets out early, people will assume that he is a bad player.

“Every time a player like Pooran loses his wicket, we think he didn’t do well. But a power-hitter like Pooran requires mentoring, be supportive with gestures like an arm around the shoulder and motivate them to bring their natural game to the next match.” – Kaif added.
