In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Tuesday, Mumbai Indians produced a run-chase for the ages by successfully surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore’s score of 199 runs. By scoring 83 runs off just 35 balls, Suryakumar Yadav once again shown why he is perhaps the best batsman in T20 cricket. Mumbai Indians finished the chase in less than 17 overs. The Rohit Sharma-led team also broke two T20 league all-time records in the process.
1. Most times 200+ chases in an IPL season
The MI team led by Rohit is the first IPL squad to successfully chase down targets of 200 runs or more, three times in a single season. The previous record-holders were Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, who pursued 200+ targets twice each in 2018 and 2014, respectively.
Mumbai has previously outrun Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals by more than 200 targets.

2. Winning with the most balls to spare in a 200+ chases
Thanks to Suryakumar’s valiant efforts, the Mumbai Indians were able to score all 200 runs in just 16.3 overs. The team went on to beat Delhi Capitals’ record for finishing a run-chase of 200 runs or more in the shortest amount of time with 21 balls left in the chase.
Against Gujarat Lions in 2017, Delhi had successfully attained the 208-run goal with 15 balls remaining. Punjab Kings, who beat Kolkata Knight Riders in 2010 by scoring 201 runs with 10 balls remaining, came in second. Currently, MI has surpassed both in this aspect.
