Delhi Capitals swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to continue as the skipper of the franchise despite regular skipper Shreyas Iyer is back in the squad.

Iyer who suffered an injury at the India-England home series while fielding had to miss out on the first leg of IPL held in India which was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 cases inside the biosecure bubble and now the second leg will start from September 19th, 2021 in UAE where the match between arch-rivals Mumbai and Chennai will mark the resumption of the marquee event.

Pant had to lead the side in the first leg and did pretty well as skipper as the franchise won six out of eight matches under his leadership and the team management didn’t want to break that Jinx and they believe that with Iyer back in the side he will strengthen the batting unit.

“While it is great news that Shreyas Iyer is fit again and ready to get back to action, it is understood that the DC management wants to give him more time to recover. As a result, Pant will continue as captain, but only for the second half of IPL 2021,” a source informed as reported by CricFit.

“Currently, I am feeling amazing, the journey was awesome, to be honest. I never hesitated for a while but right after the injury, I was sulking a bit and I didn’t know exactly what to do. I went into the dressing room and cried and it took me a while to digest it but yeah, at the end of the day, you need to go through all of it,” he said.

Delhi Capitals under Iyer Captaincy finished runner up in last edition against Mumbai Indians who clinched fifth IPL trophy under the leadership of talismanic skipper Rohit Sharma.

It will be interesting to see that whether Mumbai Indians will lift the title again this year or some other franchise will step up in the night of the final.
