Indian Captain Rohit Sharma Feels Individuals Showed Lot of Character to Reach Successive WTC Finals

We are just a fortnight away from seeing India take on Australia for the ICC WTC Final 2023 at Oval. After losing the final in the previous edition, Rohit Sharma will be leading the side and he will be hoping to do what Virat Kohli could not do in 2021 at the Rose Bowl stadium, Southampton.

Kane Wiliamson’s New Zealand went on to beat India by 8-wickets to win their first ever International ICC event. Many were hoping that India’s wait for an ICC silverware will come to an end but New Zealand’s performance totally dented those expectations.

Now Rohit Sharma has the onus to deliver major success at the highest level. It is now his time to replicate what he did with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Other than the WTC final, Rohit and Co. also have their sights set for the ICC Cricket World cup 2023 in India.

But there is plenty of time for the CWC which will kick off in October and the WTC Final is India’s prime target. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma after the conclusion of their series against Australia back in March spoke about how team India managed to get back to the WTC Final once again.

The 36-year-old stated that the team did not waste anytime to regroup themselves and get back to work, following the WTC Final loss in 2021. Rohit Sharma mentioned the fact that certain individuals worked extremely hard during the 2021-2023 WTC cycle.

“I thought in that cycle we played some really, really tough cricket. We were challenged a lot of times and I thought to come out of that was obviously going to take a lot of character from not just a few individuals, but everyone. Different individuals have stepped up, putting the performances that we were looking for from the individual.” – Rohit Sharma said.

The 2023 WTC Final between India and Australia will start from 7 June onwards.
