India vs Australia Test series to be pushed & T20Is to be cancelled for IPL 2020

IPL Canceled

There have been so many speculations about the IPL taking place this year or not as the coronavirus has disrupted the usual schedule of cricketing activities.

BCCi is vying very hard on staging the Indian Premier League this year, putting the pressure on the ICC for even taking a final call on the T20 World Cup as early as possible.

Indian team’s series of Sri Lanka and South Africa have been cancelled for now and even the Asia Cup stands cancelled this year. The BCCI is still looking for a final window to conduct the cash-rich league and one such slot could be the between September to November.

Once the ICC will take a final call on the T20 World Cup, Indian cricket team will only have one International series left in that window i.e., against Australia for Border-Gavaskar series from November which will have Test series as well as the T20I series.

There have been reports that the T20I series between India and Australia could be cancelled to pave way for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Cricket Australia (CA) had planned for a three-match T20 series ahead of the Test series, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup, which was to be followed by a Test series and three-match ODI series.

“One of those two – either T20s or ODIs – will have to be cancelled. Most likely the T20s because the format was put in place keeping the T20 World Cup in Australia in mind. Now, that’ not happening, and IPL is. The start of the Test series will also be pushed by a week,” the sources stated.

While no such development is going to take place this week, ICC is likely to discuss the fate of the T20 World Cup in their next meeting next week. The T20 World Cup is originally scheduled to take place from October 8 to November 15 in Australia this year.
