India’s new opener, 23-year-old Shubhman Gill has now become the 5th Indian batter to score a Double hundred in the second-longest format of cricket. It has been a wonderful few months for Gill who has been scoring on a consistent basis for India.

After an outstanding ODI series against Sri-Lanka, Gill kept the momentum flowing and maintained his form very well. Against the Lankans, Gill scored 70 runs in the first ODI, 21 in the 2nd ODI and 116 in the final ODI. And today, he scored his second consecutive full-century and first ever 200.

If the 23-year-old is able to keep his form intact then he will be a starter for ICC Cricket World cup later this year. Today against New Zealand, Shubhman Gill scored 208 off 149. He played every text book cricketing shots and the youngster has always been about his determination and today it was in full flow.

He opened the batting alongside Rohit Sharma and gave India the start they needed. Although, India kept losing wickets, Shubhman Gill kept his composure and elevated his innings bit by bit. He smacked 9 sixes and 19 Fours with an exceptional strike rate of 139.60.
His innings took India to a very safe total of 349 and New Zealand will be chasing 350 runs in the second innings. The Indian bowling line-up will have to compliment Gill’s batting and defend this gigantic total at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium.
