The first Test between India and Bangladesh at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium turned out to be a one-sided affair, with the hosts dominating the match from start to finish. In the IND vs BAN 1st Test, India’s spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in the Indian victory, showcasing his exceptional skills and experience.

India’s Strong Start

Bangladesh won the toss and invited India to bat first. India got off to a shaky start in their first innings, with their top batsmen getting out cheaply. Captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli scored 6 runs each, whereas, rising star Shubman Gill got out on a duck. However, on the bright side, left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal stood tall and scored a brilliant half-century (56 runs).

When India was reeling at 144-6, a masterclass performance came from Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. While the left-handed Jadeja scored a splendid 86 runs, Ashwin scored an incredible century (113 runs) and took India to a huge total of  376 runs. 

In response, Bangladesh’s batting lineup struggled against the Indian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj picked up crucial wickets as Bangladesh were bundled out for a paltry 149 runs. Bumrah, in his first innings, claimed four wickets.

India’s Second Innings

India declared their second innings at 287/4, setting Bangladesh a target of 515 runs to win. Shubman Gill (119 runs not-out) and Rishabh Pant (109 runs) both scored centuries, providing India with a comfortable lead.

Ashwin’s Heroics

The second innings of the match belonged to Ashwin. He picked up 6 wickets, including the crucial wickets of Bangladesh’s top-order batsmen. Bangladesh’s batting lineup failed to cope with Ashwin’s spin, and they were eventually bowled out for 234 runs.

India’s Dominant Victory

India’s victory in the IND vs BAN 1st Test at Chennai was dominating, as they won the match by 280 runs. Ashwin’s performance was exceptional, and his ability to bat in difficult situations and bowl consistently in the right areas was the key factor in India’s winning cause.

The first Test between India and Bangladesh was a one-sided affair, with India dominating the match throughout. With this win, India took the lead with 1-0 in the two-match Test series. Now the series moves to Kanpur for the second Test. The second and last Test match of the series will played at Green Park, Kanpur from 27 September.
