IND Vs AUS 2nd Test : Allan Border suggests playing 3 Pacers and one spinner at Delhi could benefit the visitors!

After an embarrassing loss in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy, Australia are hoping to stage a comeback at the capital city’s Arun Jaitley Stadium from tomorrow onwards. The Baggy greens suffered a massive loss to the hands of the hosts by an innings and 132 runs and for that reason, the Aussies became subject to a lot of criticism and backlash.

Former Australian legend Allan Border after the Nagpur test had slammed the current set of players for being to soft and way too polite as compared to their usual behavior. Steve Smith‘s decision to show thumbs up to Indian bowlers was not at all welcomed by Border himself and he is at it once again.

This time around the 67-year-old has given his insights on how Australia should be lining up for the 2nd test. According to Allan Border, the visitors must back their strength and opt for 3 Pacers and a spinner in the starting line-up. Border appreciated debutant Todd Murphy’s performance in the first test but he wants Nathan Lyon to start in place of Murphy.

“You’ve got to go with Lyon, he’s built up enough brownie points over the years to be the first picked. Well done to young Murphy, it’s going to be a tough decision to leave him out, I know the wicket is going to turn but I just reckon the formula for us to be successful (is) three quickies and one spinner”

The 67-year-old further advised Australia on their tactics and said that the bowlers should pitch the ball stump to stump.

“Just bowl stump to stump and be relentless with that tactic, I think that is going to be better for us than trying to beat them with spin, we’ve tried that forever and ever, and it hasn’t worked. That formula just isn’t working, and we need to go back to what does work and that is with the quickies.”
