“I told the truth”: Karim Benzema defends his jibe at Olivier Giroud

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema had recently hit the headlines when a fan asked him to name a better striker between him and Olivier Giroud. His remark to that question on Instagram was “don’t confuse Formula One with karting” as he compared himself to the Chelsea and France striker Olivier Giroud. Olivier Giroud filled Benzema’s boots and also led France World Cup glory in 2018.

But now a day after he made that remark, Karim Benzema took to Instagram to clarify his words stating that “About Giroud, I simply told the truth. But we didn’t remember what I said about him, especially about what he brings to the Frech National team. We just remembered the moment when I said I was F1 and he was karting. That’s what I think, that’s the truth, and that’s how it is,” Goal.com quoted Benzema as saying.

“Because now, if you ask me with R9 (Ronaldo): R9 is F1, and I am Karting. That’s the way it is. We’re going to move on,” he further added.

While Benzema hasn’t played for his national football team since the Euro Cup 2016, Olivier Giroud has raked in the opportunity to become the third-highest goal-scorer for his country France by scoring 39 goals in 93 games.

The vice versa has been the scenario of both the players as Olivier Giroud has not been given the same game time at the club level which Benzema enjoys with Real Madrid as their star striker, followed by one of his most productive seasons for the club in the last few months.

Benzema was dropped from France’s lineup, following a spat with Mathieu Valbuena in which he was accused of blackmailing his former teammate. And as per some reports, the national team selectors are also planning to bring him back to the national team due to his splendid performance for Real Madrid.
