It’s not easy to register victories on foreign soil to achieve that you need to play good cricket and when it comes to Test cricket you need to be on your toe for five days and dominate opposition on a consistent basis. We will here discuss some of the test victories that the Indian team registered on Australian soil.

It all started in 1977-78 series where India locked horns against Australia and Kangaroos won the series but Indian Test team registered their first victory at Melbourne as they scored 256 and 343 runs respectively followed by the Australian team who scored 213 and 164 runs in their both innings and eventually India registered a mass victory by 222 runs due to individual brilliance from Sunil Gavaskar who scored 118 runs.

India also registered their second victory in the same series at Sydney Cricket Ground by an innings and 2 runs. However, there is an interesting story in that series which comes in regards to Bob Simpson who was an Australian skipper and before the series happened he took retirement but immediately came back after his retirement to play against India which was India’s third tour of Australia. But Indian skipper Bishan Singh Bedi was happy with the performance of his team as they achieved their first victory on Australian soil.

India toured Australia in 1980-81 where they won only one match of three-match series and the ultimate result of the series was tied. The most interesting series came from the Indian perspective in 2018-19 where India was considered favorites from the beginning as Australia was playing the series without the likes of Steven Smith and David Warner who suffered a year ban due to ball-tampering scandal. However Indian didn’t disappoint with an amazing batting performance that came from Cheteshwar Pujara who scored 531 runs in the entire series and creating a new record of facing most balls in a series which is 1243. Indian team clinched the series on the Australian soil for the first time under the Leadership of Virat Kohli by 2-1.

The recent victory came against Australia on Boxing day test match in Melbourne on December 29th, 2020 where the Indian team was playing without their top-class players like Kohli, Sharma, and Shami and still they managed to register a victory against Australia and the stand-in Captain Rahane led from the front with his brilliant 12th Hundred and made sure that India still remains in the hunt of the ongoing Test series. This victory is even more special as India was playing the second Test match after losing the first test against the host.
