He will remain at the helm for the next 3 and a half year meaning that he will be in charge of France during the UEFA Euros 2024 at Germany and FIFA World Cup 2026 at USA, Canada and Mexico. The 52-year-old was reportedly going to step down post the World cup but the French Football Federation has decided to tie him down with a brand new contract.

“Equipe De France” confirmed the news through Twitter –

Rightfully so, Didier Deshcamps deserved a new contract as he has easily been one of the most consistent head coaches in the history of International football. He has already completed 10 years as the Head coach of France after joining Les Blues back in 2012.

Since then France have kept on improving and earned the status of a fearsome European giants. After disappointments at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World cup, Deschamps installed his tactics very well and called up exciting players to play. Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, Olivier Giroud, Raphael Varane are some his trusted players who have helped the team in various occasions.

Their hunt for a major trophy began from 2016 UEFA Euros at home. They shocked everyone after reaching the finals but eventually lost to Portugal in the final by 1-0 but that loss went on to motivate them for the future event. 2 years later at Russia (2018), France became World champions for the second time.

They became UEFA Nations League champions in 2021 and in 2022 they did the unthinkable. They broke the champions curse and reached all the way to the final. However, they squandered initially in the final by Argentina but they fought back pretty well.

Though, Argentina won the WC on penalties but France showed a great attitude and played like absolute champions. Didier Deschamps has now been given the reward and now he has more time to invent and build a new France for the upcoming major tournaments.
