Four Players whom India Introduced Straight after the 2019 World Cup, Now Removed from ODI Team
During the 2019 ODI World Cup, Team India impressively secured the top spot in the points table during the group stage. Despite this strong performance, the Men in Blue fell short in claiming victory at the prestigious tournament in England, experiencing defeat against New Zealand in the semi-finals.

Now, as the World Cup returns to India after a span of four years, the Indian team holds the position of favorites, with high hopes for securing the title once again. Over the course of the past four years, the management of the Indian team has undertaken the task of experimenting with numerous players in the ODI format.
A notable count of 22 cricketers have made their ODI debuts for the Asian cricket giants following the 2019 World Cup. While those who have recently debuted remain under consideration for the impending mega event later this year, there are four players who embarked on their careers immediately after the 2019 World Cup but have since faded away from the scene.
Shivam Dube
On December 15, 2019, all-rounder Shivam Dube donned his inaugural ODI cap during the match against the West Indies. In his first appearance, Dube contributed nine runs from six deliveries with the bat. On the bowling front, he went wicketless, conceding 68 runs across 7.5 overs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Regrettably, India faced an eight-wicket loss to the West Indies in that encounter. Despite his debut in the initial ODI of the three-match series, Dube did not find an opportunity to showcase his skills in the subsequent two ODIs. Subsequently, he was omitted from the ODI squad and is yet to mark his return to the format.
Navdeep Saini
During the same series against the West Indies, fast bowler Navdeep Saini also stepped into the ODI scene. His debut in the format took place on December 22, 2019, just prior to the decisive match at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
Saini’s ODI debut showcased his prowess as he emerged as the standout bowler, delivering an impressive performance of 2/58 in 10 overs. The pacey bowler has participated in a total of eight ODIs thus far. His most recent appearance in this format was against Sri Lanka on July 28, 2021. Throughout his ODI journey, Saini has secured six wickets with an economy rate that surpasses six runs per over.
Prithvi Shaw
In the Royal London One-Day Cup, Prithvi Shaw recently showcased his exceptional form by registering a double century while representing Northamptonshire. This achievement adds to his cricketing journey. The former India U-19 captain took his debut step into the ODI arena for the senior team on February 5, 2020, during the match against New Zealand in Hamilton.
Shaw has participated in a total of six ODIs for the Indian team, with his most recent appearance occurring on July 23, 2021, against Sri Lanka. As a right-handed opener, he has accumulated a tally of 189 runs at a striking rate that exceeds 100.
Despite his commendable performances in the domestic cricket scene, Shaw has not had the opportunity to make his mark in any ODIs for the Indian side over the past two years.
Mayank Agarwal
It’s not widely recalled that Mayank Agarwal was part of the Indian team competing in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Despite having no prior experience in ODI cricket, Agarwal was included in the squad as a replacement for Vijay Shankar.
Remarkably, Agarwal’s debut on the big stage didn’t transpire immediately. The unveiling of his ODI career was postponed for nearly eight months, ultimately occurring during the match against New Zealand on February 5, 2020. Over a span of five ODIs, Agarwal accumulated a total of 86 runs. His final appearance in the ODI format for India took place against Australia on November 29, 2020.
