Former Pakistani Speedster Shoaib Akhtar questions Imad Wasim’s omission from Pakistan’s T20I team

Imad-Wasim

Former Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar has questioned chief selector Mohammad Wasim’s decision of dropping Imad Wasim out from the T20 International squad for the upcoming Proteas tour.

Men in Green are scheduled to play three ODIs and four T20Is against South Africa from April 2nd to April 16th, 2021.

After the South African tour, the Azam-led side will travel to neighboring Zimbabwe for two-Test and three T20 International matches.

Imad failed to find a place in any of the squads announced for the tours. The spin-bowling all-rounder was overlooked for Mohammad Nawaz. Imad was also not a part of Pakistan’s T20I squad for the home series against South Africa last month. Nawaz was used as the all-rounder by Pakistan team-management in all three games of the series.

However, serious questions need to be raised on the selection committee who selected Mohammad Nawaz over Imad Wasim where Nawaz took one wicket in the recently postponed PSL in reference to Wasim’s three wickets at an average of 33.66 at a economy rate of 7.76 in the competition.

Shoaib Akhtar also bashes PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and termed the latter as “mediocre” and alleged him for destroying Pakistan cricket to a great extent. He also praises Muhammad Wasim choices as a selector but on the other hand, added that there is a limitation and he needs to learn a lot from that.

“There was no reason for dropping Imad Wasim for the T20 series [in South Africa],” he was quoted as saying by The Dawn.

Akhtar also urged the PCB to improve club cricket while hailing the talent in Pakistan. Akhtar further spoke about Kashmir Premier League (KPL) too, saying, “I wish honorable people should jump in to organize KPL to build a good narrative and to make the KPL non-controversial.”
