Football News: Chelsea skipper breaks silence after sanctions imposed on owner Roman Abramovich

Chelsea Owner Abramovich sanctioned by UK government was announced on Thursday morning which confirmed his assets had been frozen under the ‘ Russia Regulations’ ruling.

Many football critics and players took a stand against the action of Russia, Since the invasion, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has become the first player to break their silence since owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government and letting other Chelsea players to focus on their training rather than involving themselves in the matter.

Cesar stated while admitting it had not been a “normal day” for the club and squad members

“I have to admit that this has not been a normal day,” Azpilicueta.

“We cannot control this matter. We come here and we’re focused on the game.

“We know we have to fight for the three points. We have to forget about the stuff that is happening outside.”

The UK government and English FA had given Chelsea special licence to continue their daily operations but cannot make money through merchandise and ticket sales, meaning Abramovich is unable to sell Chelsea.

  • Further tickets sales to home and away fans are prohibited
  • Season tickets still Valid
  • No merchandise sales allowed
  • No transfer
  • No contract renewals of current Chelsea players

Chelsea have explained that they ask for additional talks with the government after completing fixtures against Norwich City in the Premier League and West Ham United in the FA Women’s Super League.

Chelsea released the statement: “Chelsea Football Club has been advised that its owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK Government.

“By virtue of his 100 per cent ownership of Chelsea FC plc and affiliated entities, Chelsea FC would normally be subject to the same sanctions regime as Mr Abramovich.

“However, the UK Government has issued a general licence that permits Chelsea FC to continue certain activities.

As we Football fans we can see the Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich era is over.

Now with so many sanctions- can the club survive?
