Team India’s current FIH Pro League season came to a successful conclusion after they won four straight matches against top-tier teams including Australia and World Champions Germany.
In a thrilling penalty shootout, India recently defeated the Kangaroos by a score of 2(4)-2(3) to boost their confidence ahead of their upcoming FIH Pro League match against Belgium and England in Britain in three months. This match will be played under new coach Craig Fulton.
Speaking of how the latest match versus Australia went, Vivek scored the game’s first goal after just two minutes, while Ephramus added another goal in the game’s 37th minute.
After another goal by Sukhjeet in the game’s 47th minute, India came back with a bang and increased its advantage to 2-1.
Although it appeared that Men in Blue would easily win in the dying seconds, Howard scored again in the 52nd minute to tie the game at 2-2.
The game concluded with a tied score at the end of regulation time, thus a penalty shootout was used to determine the victor.
When Whetteon failed his attempt in the penalty shootout, India was able to quickly take advantage of the momentum by scoring another goal through Harmanpreet.
By eventual misses from Vivek and Hardik and scoring done by Whetton , Sukhjeet and Dilpreet the penalty shootout ended on 3-3 shootout.
So it was all down to sudden death to decide the winner of this classy encounter between these two side.
Beginning with a 360-degree spin before aiming, Harmanpreet kept the opposing goalie off-balance and scored, earning India a point.
All of the pressure was on Whetton to tip the scales in favour of Australia, but Sreejesh deserves credit for using all of his skills to block the former’s stroke and ultimately secure the victory for India.
The way India finished their ongoing campaign in FIH Pro League, it will make them prepare for the biggest challenge folding in front of them which is none other than gigantic Paris Olympics 2024 which is all set to take place in a year’s time.
