FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 Live scores : New Zealand Vs Chile : Blacksticks ahead by 3 goals at half-time

After a blistering open to the FIH Men’s Hockey World cup 2023, match day 2 began with New Zealand taking on Chile.

Quarter 1

The South-Americans are playing in their first ever Hockey World cup but their debut match is not going as they had expected. The Black sticks started the game impressively as they are playing an attacking style of hockey which has certainly surprised the Chileans.

New Zealand had plenty of initial chances and Chile were somehow surviving NZ’s attacks. But it did not take them long to take the lead. Chile Goalkeeper Adrian Hernandez could only see the ball get inside his goal as Sam Lane made it 1-0.

Within a few minutes, Sam Hiha doubled New Zealand’s lead after Blair Tarrant’s cut back to make it 2-0. The Kiwis are building their attacks patiently and keeping their cool when they are in possession.

Quarter 2

After 2 goals in the first 15-minutes, New Zealand tripled their lead in the 19th minute. After Simon Child intercepted the ball from Chile, Sam Hiha converted their chance into goal to make it 3-0.

Quarter 3

Chile were awarded with 2 Penalty corners within a few minutes into the 3rd Quarter. But La Roja failed to capitalize on both occasions as the Kiwi defense stood strong to keep their lead intact.

Quarter 4

Chile finally pulls one goal back in the final quarter of the match. A brilliant move by the Chilean midfield was smartly converted by Ignacio Contardo. The Kiwi goalkeeper came forward off his line and after a long wait the goal was given.

Ignacio Contardo will remembered for a long time in Chile’s hockey as the 28-year-old scored their first ever goal in the World cup in their debut match.
