Argentina, France go 2nd and 3rd while Belgium drops to 4th in latest FIFA Rankings
2 days after Argentina became the World champions, the latest FIFA Rankings have come out. Many believed the new World champions could become the number one side in the standings but their South American counterparts Brazil are still on top with 1,840.77 points despite losing at the RO16 stage against Croatia.
The Brazilians were favorites to lift the World cup for the 6th time in their history but they might have to wait for another 4 years to end their joint longest drought of 20 years. The first time they had to wait for two decades to win the FIFA World cup was after winning the 1970 edition.
Since 2002, their best finish in the tournament was when they reached the Semi-finals but lost against eventual champions Germany by 7-1 and also missed out on becoming the 3rd best team after losing to 2010 runners-up Netherlands by 3-0 at home.
