FIFA World Rankings Despite crashing out from the Round of 16 Brazil are still on top

Argentina, France go 2nd and 3rd while Belgium drops to 4th in latest FIFA Rankings

2 days after Argentina became the World champions, the latest FIFA Rankings have come out. Many believed the new World champions could become the number one side in the standings but their South American counterparts Brazil are still on top with 1,840.77 points despite losing at the RO16 stage against Croatia.

The Brazilians were favorites to lift the World cup for the 6th time in their history but they might have to wait for another 4 years to end their joint longest drought of 20 years. The first time they had to wait for two decades to win the FIFA World cup was after winning the 1970 edition.

Since 2002, their best finish in the tournament was when they reached the Semi-finals but lost against eventual champions Germany by 7-1 and also missed out on becoming the 3rd best team after losing to 2010 runners-up Netherlands by 3-0 at home.

This year Brazil had a combative as well as experienced squad filled with a number of Rock solid and creative players. But their shocking loss against Croatia on penalties suggest that a lot of work still needs to be done.

Meanwhile, the new World Champions Argentina received promotion as they replaced Belgium for the second place. the Belgian Red Devils were knocked out of the World cup from the group stages itself despite finishing 3rd in the last edition.

La Albiceleste have now gone +64.55 to go second with 1,838.43  points. 2018 Winners and 2022 Runners-up France who were 4th before the World cup have jumped to one spot above on 3rd with 1,823.46 points. Belgium‘s terrible performance have seen them drop down to the 4th position as they suffered a blow of -35.41 points and they currently have 1,781.30 points.

Quarter-finalists England and Netherlands are 5th (1,774.07 points) and 6th (1,740.89) respectively. FIFA World Cup 2022 Bronze medalists Croatia have also been promoted to 4 spots higher at the 7th position with 1,727.63 points and they have received the highest boost with +81.99.

Italy, Portugal and Spain are the 8th (1,723.55), 9th (1,702.54) and 10th (1,693.43) best team in the top 10 FIFA Rankings.
