FIFA World Cup 2022: Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo will miss World Cup after Thigh injury

Barcelona star Ronald Araujo will have surgery on a thigh injury sustained while playing for Uruguay during the international break, according to Barcelona, and he will likely miss the World Cup as a result.

The centre back sustained the injury during Uruguay’s game against Iran, and he was forced to face the difficult choice of having surgery or not.

Barcelona defender Araujo made a bold but honorable choice in choosing his long-term health over the World Cup, which not many players would have done.

Barcelona FC released a statement to confirm Ronald Araujo’s decision, which stated:

“Ronald Araujo will undergo surgery on Wednesday for the adductor longus tendon avulsion he has in his right thigh. The operation will be carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical staff, in Turku, Finland.”

This is bad news not just for the guy, but also for his teams. Both Barcelona and Uruguay value the center-back highly, so they will both be without him for the foreseeable future.

The defender is anticipated to take two to three months to heal, according to reports, and he will miss El Clasico and a significant portion of Barcelona’s Champions League campaign.
