Curtis Campher Makes History with Five Wickets in Five Balls

Ireland’s Curtis Campher has created history in professional cricket by becoming the first male player to take five wickets in five balls. This incredible achievement happened on Thursday, July 10, 2025, during an Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy match in Dublin. Campher, playing for Munster Reds against North-West Warriors, led his team to a massive 100-run victory. His amazing bowling performance has made him a standout name in Ireland cricket and the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy.

Curtis Campher, an all-rounder for Ireland, showed his bowling skills in the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy match against North-West Warriors. The Warriors were chasing a target of 189 runs but collapsed from 87 for 5 to 88 all out, thanks to Campher’s deadly bowling. He finished with figures of 5 wickets for 16 runs in just 2.3 overs. This made him the first male cricketer in professional cricket to take five wickets in five consecutive balls, a record-breaking moment in world cricket.

The historic spell began in the 12th over. First, Campher bowled Jared Wilson with a sharp inswinger that hit the stumps. Next, on the final ball of the over, he trapped Graham Hume leg-before-wicket (lbw) with another inswinger. This set the stage for a hat-trick in his next over.

In the 14th over, Campher dismissed Andy McBrine, who miscued a shot to deep midwicket. Then, he removed Robbie Millar, caught behind by the wicketkeeper, and bowled Josh Wilson to complete the five-wicket streak. Campher’s simple approach was key. “I wasn’t really sure what was happening,” he told Cricket Ireland. “I just stuck to my guns and kept it simple, and luckily it worked.”

While Curtis Campher is the first male player to achieve five wickets in five balls in professional cricket, he is not the first overall. Zimbabwe women’s all-rounder Kelis Ndhlovu accomplished this feat in 2024 during a domestic under-19 T20 match against Eagles Women. However, Campher’s achievement in the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy stands out as a historic moment for men’s professional cricket.

In addition to his bowling, Curtis Campher also played a key role with the bat. He scored 44 runs off 24 balls, helping Munster Reds post a strong total of 188 for 7 in 20 overs. This all-round performance made him the star of the match. Campher’s return to form was even more special as it was only his second game after recovering from a finger injury that kept him out of Ireland’s ODI and T20I series against the West Indies. His contribution with both bat and ball shows why he is a valuable player for Munster Reds and Ireland cricket.

Curtis Campher’s five wickets in five balls is a rare and exciting moment in cricket. The Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy match against North-West Warriors showcased his talent as an all-rounder. His ability to change the game in just five deliveries has made him a hero in Ireland cricket. Furthermore, his simple bowling strategy and focus helped him achieve this historic feat. This performance will be remembered as one of the greatest in the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy and professional cricket.
