Cricket Gets Boost in Sikkim as CM Prem Singh Tamang Inaugurates Center of Excellence
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang is making sure that Cricket gets more attention from the sports enthusiast. That is the reason, he inaugurated the Centre of Excellence on Tuesday. This is going to include a rainwater reservoir, a clubhouse, and even a cafe right outside the Sikkim Cricket Association, at Sikkim Cricket Ground in Mining in Pakyong district. This is certainly going to promote Cricket in this region. As per Prem Singh Tamang Youngsters in Sikkim are Football enthusiasts, but if Cricket is going to be promoted, then we’re certainly going to see more Cricket fans too.
The objective of the Center of Excellence
- The main objective of the Center of Excellence is to ensure that youngsters are groomed properly, by getting good training from the experts.
- The Center of Excellence is going to ensure that the young players are going to get a good infrastructure, backup of sports science, and complete guidance from the coaches.
This idea was first proposed by the Chief Minister himself, during a division tournament, in 2023. During that time he was a Sports Minister.
History of the Sikkim Cricket
During the inauguration CM also mentioned the history of Cricket in Sikkim. He said that Sikkim Cricket was established in 1987, and since then many executive bodies have together worked hard to get it this far.
Controversy regarding the mining ground
He mentioned that during his tenure as the Sports Minister from 2007 to 2010, the association of Cricket was basically handled by the President. During that period a controversy came up regarding the mining ground. Because of that controversy, the lease was almost lost, but renewed it, on his way to becoming the Chief Minister.
This is certainly a new start for Sikkim. Now that day is not far, when the Cricketers from Sikkim are going to be there in the Indian Cricket team.
