Abhishek Sharma, IPL 2024, SRH, Sunrisers Hyderabad

Cricket experts back Abhishek Sharma for India berth, says ‘He is ready’

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are having an amazing run in the IPL 2024. They have qualified for the playoffs and also found a gem in Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek has a reputation for explosive batting at the top of the order. But, his bowling mastery grabbed the attention of many cricket experts and fans in their crucial victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR), taking them into the finals.

Facing a challenging target of 176, the Royals needed a solid batting performance. However, Sharma’s exceptional bowling spell disrupted their rhythm. Bowling his full quota of four overs, he conceded only 24 runs while scalping two crucial wickets. This economical bowling, coupled with his aggressive batting throughout the season, has not only earned him praise from fans but also ignited calls for his inclusion in the Indian national team.

While the 23-year-old’s batting has always been his calling card, his bowling has often been overshadowed. This season, however, he boasts the highest number of sixes (42) in the IPL, showcasing his power-hitting abilities. But his bowling display against the RR has opened a new chapter in his cricketing career. Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Siddhu lauded him on Star Sports, stating, “Ye bacha taiyaar hai (this kid is ready).”

Siddhu isn’t the only cricket legend impressed by Abhishek Sharma’s skills. Tom Moody, a former Australian cricketer and the current director of Sri Lankan cricket, also sees immense potential in the young player. He emphasizes the importance of Abhishek Sharma continuing to develop his bowling, stating, “He needs to be bowling for the future of Indian cricket.” Sharma’s ability to bat at the top of the order and bowl left-arm spin makes him a valuable asset, offering flexibility for the Indian team across formats.

Sharma himself acknowledges the need to hone his bowling skills. He revealed in a post-match interview that he had been working hard on his bowling with his father. This hard work complemented his natural talent and it has paid off handsomely. The trust placed in him by SRH captain Pat Cummins, who gave him a full quota of overs in a high-pressure match, further validates his progress.

With his all-round performance, Abhishek Sharma helped his team (SRH) reach the IPL 2024 finals. Additionally, with his exceptional batting and bowling ability he made a name for himself at the national level. His ability to adapt to match situations and contribute with both bat and ball makes him a strong contender to be selected for the Indian national team.

The fans and the cricket experts are eagerly waiting to see how he will perform in the final of the IPL 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders. IPL 2024 final will  be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai.
