Colombia booked their place in the Copa America final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Uruguay on Wednesday night. The match, played in Miami Gardens, Florida, was a tense affair that saw Colombia play with 10 men for the entire second half after a red card to Daniel Munoz.
Colombia struck first in the 39th minute thanks to a headed goal from Jefferson Lerma. James Rodriguez, Colombia’s veteran playmaker, whipped in a corner kick that Lerma met with a powerful header, putting his team ahead. Just before halftime, the tide turned for Colombia when Munoz received his second yellow card for a reckless challenge and was sent off.

Colombia Defends Valiantly Despite Disadvantage
Despite being a man down, Colombia displayed incredible defensive resilience throughout the second half. Uruguay, desperate for an equalizer, piled on the pressure but couldn’t find a way past Colombia’s resolute defense. Goalkeeper David Ospina was outstanding, making a few key saves to keep his team in the lead.
Since losing to Argentina in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier in February 2022, Colombia are 28 games unbeaten (W22 D6).
Their first #CopaAmerica final in 23 years awaits.

Rodriguez Makes Sacrifices for the Final
James Rodriguez, who has been in top form for Colombia throughout the tournament with a record six assists, was also shown a yellow card in the second half. With Colombia needing him fresh for the final, he was substituted later to avoid the risk of a second yellow and a suspension.
Suarez Comes Close, But Colombia Holds On
Luis Suarez, Uruguay’s legendary striker, was brought on in the second half with the hopes of sparking a comeback. He came close to scoring in the 71st minute but saw his shot hit the outside of the post. Colombia also had their chances, with Mateus Uribe hitting the woodwork in the dying moments of the game.
Record-Breaking Run and Emotional Outburst
This victory extends Colombia’s unbeaten streak to a record 28 games, surpassing their previous record set between 1992 and 1994. The match also saw a heated conclusion, with players from both teams pushing and shoving after the final whistle. Some Uruguayan players even entered the stands to confront Colombian fans.
Colombia Faces Messi’s Argentina in the Final
