Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes helps to transform the Ashes series for England

Chris Woakes certainly played one of the most important roles to stop the England team from losing the series. This is the extraordinary feature of Test Cricket, even till the last day of a month-long series, you don’t know who will be the winner of the series. Once the fourth test match drew, it was clear that the Australian team would retain the Ashes Cup. But on the other hand, England still had the opportunity to prove that they are as good as Australia. For that, Chris Woakes ensured that he will be there to act as a strong pillar of his team.

Contribution of Chris Woakes

Not only in the 5th Test match, but Woakes went on to make important contributions, even in the 3rd Test. This 34-year-old bowler has played 48 Test matches in the last 10 years. But looks like he is hungry for more. He was as good as a 24-year-old bowler.

On the last day of the 5th test match, it was not looking clear if the English team would be able to make it. The opening partnership of David Warner and Usman Khawaja was certainly brilliant. They both set up 140 runs on the board before Chris Woakes got Warner out.

In 19 overs, Woakes took 4 wickets to make his team win. He got both the openers out, as they were acting as the pillars for the Australian team. Later on, Woakes even got the wicket of the best Test batsman, Steve Smith. And to finish things off, he got the wicket of Mitchell Starc.

Even in the 3rd Test match of the Ashes, he bowled really well and got 3 wickets in both innings. Because of the reason he can also bat, he is considered an important part of the lower-order batting lineup.
