“Changes in Game is Showing …….” Says India’s Chess Star R Praggnandhaaa on his recent run in Chess

Chess is regarded as one of the most popular indoor games in the world where credit should be given to all stakeholders who have worked hard behind the scenes to make this entity extremely popular.

When it comes to India’s Chess Ecosystem has flourished big time, and credit for this meteoric rise should be given to All India Chess Federation where they have implemented robust policies along with stakeholders who have worked equally harder to make this sport popular in the country.

Chennai being the chess capital should be credited for calling themselves proudly as “Chess Capital of the country” also schools who have made this sport as mandate part of education curriculum.

 

Many players have hailed from the city one such proud player is none other than R Praggnandhaa who is consistently on the path to excellence, and currently ranked at Number 4th spot in Live rankings ahead of 2026 FIDE Candidates berth.

‘He has already kicked off the season with a memorable victory against Wijk aan Zee followed by Joint first finish at the Superbet chess classic event held in Romania and subsequently he later went on to win FIDE Circuit points leaderboard with 86.28 points however he later went to clinch UzChess Cup in Tashkent which put him pole position on the FIDE Circuit leaderboard with 86.28 points  however tournament like World Cup and Grand Swiss later this year will be decisive, for now the Chennai lad is well and truly carrying the winning momentum with him.

“This year has been good for me so far and I Hope it continues. We made some changes in my game and it’s showing results. Last Year, Things didn’t go my way. Ramesh sir and I worked and tried to find things to change… Those were the difficult things. Now there are lot of tournaments coming up Candidates Grand Swiss, GCT. And I am not trying to focus on all of them instead of focus on one thing at a time” Praggnandhaa said on the sidelines interview conducted at Chola Chess Academy launch here on Wednesday.

When he was asked if he feels on track ahead of Candidates tournament to which he said ” I am giving my best and we will see…There are lot more important tournaments lined up. In the FIDE Circuit anyone can come up and will take each tournament separately and I want to give my best for every tournament. Let’s see how It goes” .

Indian legendary chess player Vishwanathan Anand said that he is confident Praggnandhaa would qualify for Candidates as he has got extra motivation to do well in upcoming events.

“He’s having sensational year. I think for him, missing out(on winning) the Candidates last year is a reaction this year. He’s got that extra motivation. The most important thing is not to be leading the circuit now..It’s to be leading when it ends. Hopefully it will happen” said anand.

Praggnanandhaa is brilliant character with his cool and calm moves he can torment opposition irrespective of all three formats he is playing which is include- Rapid, Blitz and Classical Chess.
