“Bumrah’s Workload is Checked based on these two ….” Said Former Indian Coach on his Availability in India vs England Series?
Jasprit Bumrah workload is the biggest talking point in 2025 especially when Indian team has lost first match of the series.
The first match of the series has been exceptionally bowling from ace speedster Bumrah, who clinched 5 wickets for 84 runs.
His workload management is widely discussed as he is once in a generational bowler perfectly decoded by Virat Kohli.
Gautam Gambhir was asked Questions whether Bumrah would play more matches in the series to which he said “No it is decided even before Indian team was announced that Jasprit would play only 3 games of the series, he is special for us going forward and we need to take care of him”

Bumrah’s ability to adapt surface quickly and dismantle any batting lineup in the world across all conditions makes him one of the brilliant bowler of all time.
Bumrah recently etched new record in Test Cricket where he became the first Asian Bowler to clinch most wickets in overseas conditions where he picked 187 wickets surpassing even the great Wasim Akram which is not an easy feat at all.
On His workload how it is checked Former India Strength and Conditioning Coach Soham Desai said while talking to distinct media outlets ” For someone like Bumrah, you could check his workload based on how he is bowling on the nets via his GPS devices also we check how he is behaving in the nets or let’s say in the bus how he is behaving whether his intensity in terms of conversation is same or different based on that you could check Bumrah workload” said Desai.
“When Bumrah couldn’t make it to Champions Trophy India’s Future Tour Programmes(FTP) was studied and it was decided that he would play only three 3 Test matches” Desai told TOI.
“If a bowler is observed moving differently or lacks a bit of intensity even in simply tasks like conversations in the team bus, these became markers for deciding any players workload”
Desai said I know someone like Bumrah and bowler himself is actually aware of his body and he understand his body pretty well from young age.
“I have known him since the ACL injury in 2014 during his initial days at Gujarat Domestic Team. He understands his body pretty well and knows back then how to understand how body would respond to distinct situatons” Desai added.
“The Selectors and Team Management sit with trainers and physios and spell out plans for bowlers which is venue specific for every bowler during a long series and the bowlers are prepared accordingly so it is checked whether the same bowler could carry out that workload effectively” Desai further added.
“For someone like Bumrah the approach is completely different as he usually bowls 5-7 overs on the net where we saw when he was bowling more than 7 overs, there was bit of unease and discomfort we saw in MCG with him bowling extra overs without much of breather between spells and that might possibly caused spike in his workload which triggered the back injury in Sydney” Desai Concluded.
Overall, Workload management could be possibly checked based on technological devices like GPS or reading behavioral pattern where we are studying emotions of player and his intensity in his long conversations whether he is behaving in similar way or differently at the end of the day as Desai said call lies with bowlers whether he is fit and raring to go so that he could ball in the next test match or not.
Bumrah seems to have learned from his past mistakes, in Border Gavaskar trophy where he bowled extra overs that added more misery in his workload.
He seems to have tone down in this ongoing series against England where he held himself back where he bowled a total of 43.4 overs at Headingley Oval as compared to last test series in Australia at MCG where he bowled 53.2 overs.
Based on reports lying in distinct media outlets, Bumrah would not play 2nd Test Match so ideally he would be playing 3rd Test match at Edbaston.
India did gave tough time to England in 1st test match but losing that game definitely broke hearts of ardent fans who were disappointed with result.
Team India certainly have enough firepower in their arsenal to beat England in their own conditions let’s see how things unfold in times to come.
