Big Bash League season 9:- Big Bash is the second most-watched T20 league after IPL (Indian Premier League) in terms of viewership. The grand league has successfully completed 8 years with global fanfare, and have now responded to the fans’ request to come up with a new format comprising of unexpected twists and turns, to make the format more exciting for the viewers.
Again in the 2019 edition, the league will feature 8 teams from 8 different cities packed with International stars. In the last 8 years, the tournament was played in a double round-robin format followed by knockouts and the final, but this time around, as per fans’ opinions, few crucial changes will be made in the qualifier and final setup.
“We’ve listened and now have a shortened fixture, more consistent timeslots, a continued regional footprint and a stronger finals format which will give fans the best opportunity to experience the BBL,” said Big Bash League head of leagues Alistair.
Revamped Finals Format
The Big Bash League will now follow a somewhat similar pattern to IPL, however, here, the top 5 will qualify for the playoffs or the finals stage. The top two teams will go head to head against each other in the qualifier, to book a direct place in the final. The fourth and fifth-placed teams will play against each other in the eliminator. The winner of the eliminator will face the third-placed team in the game that BBL calls the ‘knock-out’. The losing team of the qualifier will then have a second shot at the final as they face the winner of the knock-out in the ‘challenger’. The winner of that match will face the winner of the qualifier in the final to decide the Champions of Big Bash League season 9.
According to him, the five-teams’ play-offs will take the excitement level to a different horizon.
The Big Bash season 9 will start off from December 17 and the finale will be played on February 8, after warping the five finals format.
