Ben McDermott was born on December 12th 1994 in Caboolture, Queensland, Australia. Ben McDermott was born to CJ McDermott, who is a former Australian fast bowler and also served as the bowling coach of Australian Team between between 1984 and 1996. His brother, Alister McDermott is an Australian former cricketer who played for Queensland in Australian domestic cricket. Unlike his dad and brother who were fast bowler, Ben wanted to take a different path and decided to be a top order right-handed bastman and a part-time wicket-keeper.

With his current form in Big bash League and newly crowned Man of the Tournament. Ben McDermott is regarded as the future star of Australia. He has getting runs consistently in the domestic cricket. Ben McDermott made his T2o debut on 2013-14 season for Brisbane Heat scoring 30 runs in his Debut match. He made his maiden T20 century against Melbourne Renegades scoring 114 runs including 9 sixes and 8 fours. It was third fastest century in Big Bash League History.
