Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Lemar offered to Chelsea

Thomas Lemar’s big-money transfer move to Spanish giants Atletico de Madrid didn’t go as the things planned and now the transfer speculation surrounds around him.

The reports state that Chelsea has been offered Thomas Lemar from Atletico Madrid.

Frank Lampard’s Blues are on the hunt for attacking options. Lampard has drawn up a shortlist of targets as he looks to strengthen his young squad. Moussa Dembele, Jadon Sancho, and Gabriel Barbosa have all been linked in recent weeks and Chelsea is ready to release the funds necessary to boost their top-four hopes. Chelsea has pulled out of the race to sign Wilfried Zaha, though, with Crystal Palace demanding a fee of £80million for the forward who boasts an immense attacking potential.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea could look at Thomas Lemar as a cheaper option. Thomas Lemar has been superb for French club Monaco where he won the League title and caught the attention of the football fraternity.

However, his displays for the Atletico Madrid haven’t been overwhelming and thus he could leave the La Liga side soon.

Lemar is available on loan for a fee of £5million or, alternatively, for around £50m if Chelsea wants to sign the Frenchman permanently to add an attacking depth to their squad.

Thomas Lemar has been previously linked with the moves for Arsenal and Liverpool.

Lemar has also been Tottenham’s radar this winter, but the north London club would only consider a loan agreement for the World Cup winner.

When asked about Chelsea’s recent slumps and January transfer signings, Lampard said,

“It takes both in terms of the big picture for a club like us.

“We work on the training ground, but the questions of the players are, in these kinds of games which we’re controlling, can we score goals?

“Because that makes the feeling of the counter-attack not so dangerous. When it stays 0-0 it feels dangerous.

“So it’s something we’ll have to look at and always.”

Chelsea is back in Premier League action on 11th January as they face Burnley at their own home ground, Stamford Bridge.
