Asian Champions Trophy: Indian hockey team beats South Korea 4-1, faces China in title match

The Indian men’s hockey team continues their brilliant form, defeating South Korea 4–1 in the semi-finals to advance to the finals of the Asian Champions Trophy. India will now face China in the final, who defeated Pakistan in another semi-final match and entered the title match for the first time. The bronze medalist of the Paris Olympics 2024 has performed exceptionally in this tournament and remains invincible. 

The final match will be played between India and China on Tuesday, where the Indian team will go on to look for a record 5th title. In the semifinal match, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals, while Uttam Singh and Jarmanpreet Singh scored one each. Jihun Yang, the only goal for South Korea, was fired in the third quarter.

India gained momentum from the beginning 

India maintained an edge against South Korea from the first quarter. First, Uttam Singh scored a goal and India took a lead of 1-0. After this, in the second quarter, the Indian team doubled its lead. Captain Hermanpreet Singh scored for India in the second quarter. In this way, India had taken a 2–0 lead over South Korea until the first half was over.

Both teams scored in the third quarter 

The Indian men’s hockey team retained the lead against South Korea in the third quarter as well. South Korea tried to return after half-time and scored a goal, but could not overtake India. While Jihun Yang scored for Korea in the third quarter, at the same time, Jarmanpreet Singh from India did not delay in scoring the third goal. Finally, captain Harmanpreet Singh scored his second goal of the match, which led India to a 4–1 lead against South Korea. South Korea tried to take the lead till the end, but could not succeed. 

India retained dominance against South Korea

It was the 62nd time India faced South Korea in an international hockey match. The two teams first played against each other at the Asian Games in Tokyo in 1958. India then defeated South Korea 2–1. India has won 39 matches so far and South Korea has won 11 matches. Meanwhile, 12 matches ended on the draw. The last match between the two was played during the pool stage in this Asian Champions Trophy, where India defeated South Korea 3–1. India, however, retained this rhythm in the semi-finals of the Asian Champions Trophy as well.
