As expected Sergio Aguero announces retirement from football

It’s not just FC Barcelona Fans but the people who followed Argentina national team will feel empty after one of their top players Sergio Aguero announces retirement from football due to ailing heart condition. With this announcement he puts end to his 18 year football career which comprises of 400 goals as the last match he played was against Alvaes in October 2021 where the match resulted in a tie with a score of 1-1.

“This press conference is to communicate that I’ve decided to stop playing soccer. It’s a very hard moment but I’m at peace with the decision I made,” a tearful Aguero told a gathering at the Camp Nou.

“It’s a decision that I made to preserve my health. It’s what the doctors said to me, that it would be better to stop playing. I made the decision around 10 days ago.

“I’m very proud of my career, it was a dream come true. I just wanted to be a professional player and never thought that I would play in Europe.”

The Argentine who joined Barca on a free transfer in a close season but made only five appearances in all competitions due to cardiac issues and the only one occasion where he scored for Barca came in a home match against Real Madrid where the former defeated later by 2-1.

Aguero’s in the past had played for close to 10 years for Manchester City where he scored 260 goals in 360 appearances to become club’s record goalscorer.
