Arsenal Legend Patrick Viera Thinks Sadio Mane’s Fourth Place in Ballon d’or is ‘unfair’

One of the most lucrative sporting ceremonies, France Football’s Ballon d’Or awards got concluded ion 2nd December and it went controversial for many reasons.

Liverpool’s flying forward Sadio Mane’s fourth-place finish in Ballon D’or awards certainly got the eyebrows raised and it attracted a brimful of criticism.

Former Arsenal captain and premier League legend Patrick Viera has labeled it as ‘unfair’ and he thinks the Senegalese forward deserved much higher position than what he got.

“I find it unfair. I find it unfair compared to what he did, compared to the number of games he played, compared to the number of times he was decisive,” the Arsenal legend told RFI

“Considering the involvement he had had in goals, and importantly the way he behaved on the field, I think he deserved much more than fourth place.”

Sadio Mane was in blistering form in 2019 helping his side Liverpool to land UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super cup.

While, Lionel Messi who clinched his 6th Ballon d’Or, himself stated that it’s a shame to see Sadio Mane in the fourth position.

“It’s a shame to see Mane finish in fourth place.

“But I think there have been a lot of great players this year. That’s why it was difficult to choose a particular player. But I chose Sadio Mane because he’s a player that I like.

“Mane achieved a great year that was exceptional for the entire Liverpool team. That’s why I chose him. I repeat, there were a lot of very great players this year, so the choice was difficult.”

Sadio Mane has become one of the most important players in Liverpool’s playing eleven and is delivering for the Anfield club week on week. Eventually, he is becoming the instrumental force behind their title charge.
