The rising batsman of Indian cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal is set for a big move in his domestic career. He is reportedly set to leave Mumbai and join the Goa state team from the next domestic season onwards.
As per a report published in Indian Express, Jaiswal has written a mail to the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) on April 1, requesting a No Objection Certificate with the permission to allow the change of home state going forward.
An unexpected move, a source within the Mumbai Cricket Association has confirmed to a leading sports publication house that MCA has received an email from Jaiswal on Tuesday, stating that he wants to move to Goa for ‘personal reasons.’
A Goa Cricket Association official also confirmed the development. “We have spoken to him (Jaiswal), and he will play for Goa in the coming season. The paperwork is yet to be completed, but we have agreed to bring him on board for next season,” GCA secretary Shamba Naik Desai told this publication.

“His experience will be helpful for the team, but we have not decided on whether he will be the captain for the season,” Desai said, adding: “There’s still time. Once he signs, we will discuss internally and decide on that…”
Whether this request for transfer approval is indeed for personal reasons or some hidden professional agenda, cannot be confirmed or clearly identified.
Yashasvi has been a part of Mumbai’s cricketing system since his U-19 days, making an impact with his remarkable performances, which is why his decision comes as a complete surprise. He had exploded onto the scene after scoring a double century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2019, and became the youngest player to do so, back in the day.
His stellar performances for Mumbai in domestic cricket earned him a spot in the Indian national team. His move to Goa marks a significant shift, particularly as Goa has recently achieved success by qualifying for the knock-out stages.
Goa has only recently secured promotion to the Elite Group after competing in the Plate Division. He follows in the footsteps of Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who had also moved to Goa before returning to Mumbai.
The 23-year-old last played for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir in January, scoring a total of 30 runs. However, he withdrew from the team’s semifinal clash against Vidarbha, citing ankle pain.
His absence had raised eyebrows in the MCA management, and within a span of few months now, his request for NOC approval to represent Goa clearly shows that Yashasvi Jaiswal wants to turn the page with Mumbai.
Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal plays for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL, and also an opener for the Indian test team, with his recent performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia bringing laurels to his name.
His form in the IPL 2025 season so far has not been up to the mark. He has struggled, managing just 34 runs in three matches at an average of 11.33 and a strike rate of 106.25. Can he regain the lost touch and display a smashing performance streak like the one in 2023 or continue this way is something we will find out.
