Wrestlers protest update : Vinesh Phogat demands Competitions and National camps to held out of UP!

The Wrestlers protest at Jantar Mantar against WFI President Brij Bushan Sharan Singh has reached its 17th Day as the country’s best wrestlers demand for the removal of Brij Bushan as the President of the apex governing body of Wrestling.

Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia are some of the big names who are leading this protest right from January 2023. They have alleged Brij Bushan of sexually harassing 7 female athletes even during the National camps and also used to torture them for things to stay under the table.

In her latest appearance in front of Media, Vinesh Phogat demanded for all the National competitions and Camps to be organized outside of Uttar Pradesh. Brij Bushan Singh is a Member of Parliament from Kaiserganj which is located in UP.

Phogat claimed that Brij Bushan and his associates can influence the camps since UP is his home state. “We have never stopped the national camps from happening , if the camps will be held in Lucknow or any other region in UP that are under his control, we will have a problem.”

When the Wreslters took the streets again in April, Delhi Police initially did not co-operate after refusing to register FIRs against Brij Bushan Singh. But after the orders from Supreme Court Delhi Police filed 2 separate charge sheets against the BJP MP at New Delhi’s Connaught Place station.

But after those FIRs, no further investigation has been made against Brij Bushan but the charges against are severe enough to send him behind the bars. “The first FIR has been registered under the POCSO Act along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It was filed based on the allegations of a minor.”

“The second FIR was registered for a comprehensive investigation into the complaints by other complainants under relevant sections pertaining to outraging of modesty.” – Delhi Police spoke in depth about the cases.

Despite the severity, Delhi Police have not officially began their quest to see how true the allegations actually are. Vinesh Phogat spoke about it yesterday by giving a green light to ending the protest as soon as the Police starts to investigate. “If they arrest him today, we’ll leave. If they don’t, we could be here for even 6 months. So we will sit for however long we have to.”
