Wrestlers Protest update : "I'm not a Criminal and i won't resign until the next WFI elections!" Brij Bhushan Singh explains his side of story

The head of the Wrestlers Federation of India (WFI) asserted on Saturday that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is innocent and will not resign from his position, a day after the Delhi Police filed two FIRs against him for allegedly harassing female wrestlers.

The press conference took place when the wrestler was demonstrating at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The institution’s WFI chief and other trainers came under fire from top Indian wrestlers for allegedly harassing female competitors.

Six days after the wrestlers returned to the streets, the Delhi Police filed two FIRs against Brij Bhushan at the Connaught Place station, claiming it to be their “first victory in the pursuit of justice.”

“Resignation is not a big deal but I am not a criminal. If I resign, it will mean that I have accepted their (wrestlers’) allegations. My tenure is almost over. Govt has formed a 3-member committee and elections will be held in 45 days & my term will end after the elections.” –

Brij Bhushan Singh explained his side of things and disclosed quite a few things. He said that it is surprising to see the Wrestlers protest because they did not have any problem in the last 12 years and all of a sudden they have an issue.

Bhushan claimed that the wrestlers maintained a good relationship with him, used to invite him for weddings, take photographs together and seek his blessings. The protesters alleged Brij Bhushan of sexually assaulting and torturing Young female wrestlers even during National camps.

To all of those allegations, the 66-year-old BJP MP said that Vinesh Phogat and her community are the only ones that are protesting against him otherwise 90% of Haryana is in the support of Brij Bhushan. He explained his disbelief on the Wrestlers’ demands of sending him to the jail and sack him from his positions.

“Every day they (wrestlers) are coming with their new demands. They demanded FIR, FIR was registered and now they are saying that I should be sent to jail and resign from all posts. I am MP because of people of my constituency and not becasue of Vinesh Phogat. Only one family and Akhara (are protesting) & 90% players of Haryana are with me.” – Brij Bhushan Singh said.
