History was made last evening and now its time to continue the action and pick up from where it was left. The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League is all set for Day 2 action. The 1st match day was full of fireworks and the opening fixture between Mumbai Indians Women and Gujarat Giants Women was absolutely cracking.

Gujarat had won the toss and asked MI Women to bat first. GG Captain Beth Mooney’s decision to let Harmanpreet Kaur’s side bat first did not prove to be a good choice. MI’s batting line-up took on GG bowlers right after Yastika Bhatia’s departure.

Her opening partner Hayley Mathews and Nat-Sciver Brunt took the charge and stood for a 50-run partnership before the latter got out for 23. Mathews was also in the dressing room soon (47) but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front and battered GG bolwers.

She amassed 65 runs in 30 balls while Amelia Kerr scored a quick fire 45 off 24 to help MI register 207 runs on the board. In response, all Gujarat Giants led by Beth Mooney could score was 64 runs as their batting line-up flopped in front of MI bowling attack.

Beth Mooney was retired hurt while Ashleigh Gardner and Harleen Deol were sent back for a Duck. But the focus today is on the double header between RCB Women & DC Women and UP Warriorz Vs Gujarat Giants.
