World Cup 2023: Reports indicate that average hotel prices in Ahmedabad have surged by almost 15 times

The upcoming India-Pakistan World Cup 2023 clash set to be held at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium has led to a significant spike in average hotel prices, reportedly surging nearly 15 times higher than usual. Originally planned for October 15, the match was rescheduled as part of the International Cricket Council’s revised schedule, creating inconvenience for fans who had already booked accommodations based on the initial timetable.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the average tariffs for hotels in Ahmedabad have inflated substantially, with some establishments that typically charge around ₹4000 per night demanding as much as ₹60,000 per night for twin-sharing accommodations on platforms like booking.com. High-end hotels have even crafted stay packages reaching up to ₹50,000 for a two-night stay. Adding to the complexities, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has secured lodging for its sponsors and affiliate partners, possibly exacerbating the booking challenges for fans.

Furthermore, procuring physical tickets is another potential issue that cricket enthusiasts must contend with. The BCCI has declared that e-tickets will not be valid for stadium entry. The ICC has announced that tickets for India’s matches in Ahmedabad will become available for purchase on September 3, and BCCI has mandated that physical tickets must be obtained from designated outlets across the city a day before the game. This requirement places an additional burden on fans, who must navigate both lodging and ticket collection logistics.

It’s worth recalling the previous instance of ticket collection chaos during the Indian Premier League 2023 final earlier in the year, which also occurred at the Narendra Modi Stadium. A video of the resulting disorder at the stadium circulated widely on social media, highlighting the challenges fans might face in anticipation of the high-stakes India-Pakistan encounter.
