World Athletics postpones 2021 Championship to March 2023

World Athletics on Thursday announced that they have discussed with organisers and have reached an agreement that World Athletics Indoor championship in Nanjing to postpone the event from March 19-21 in 2021 to March 2023.

“Whilst we have been liaising with the Organising Committee and Chinese Athletics Association to evaluate the staging over the last few weeks, given the current global situation, there is still significant uncertainty about the state of COVID-19 pandemic in the early part of 2021,” WA said in a release

“For the safety of our athletes and technical officials, we must duly consider the risks in bringing a large group of people to attend the event under the pandemic situation and fully respect and carry out the pandemic prevention policy of the host country” it added

Due to extreme Coronavirus outbreak in Nanjing, they will now host World Indoor Championship in 2023, a year after Indoor Championship that will take place in Belgrade in 2022. But still, the athletes will have opportunities as a part of World Indoor tour which will start from the early part of 2021 which will have 26 events hosted across 12 countries in Europe and North America.

The World Indoor Tour which is scheduled from January to February 2021 will be organized across three different tiers of competition where top three winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively. In India Athletic Federation of India is responsible for conducting all operations related to Athletic events. The AFI has as many as 32 affiliated state units and institutional units. As the Federation was founded in 1946 selects Indian athletes for all national and international competitions including the Olympics, Asian Games, CWG and Asian Championships.
